Kiel Lauer

Kiel Lauer  is an active as a performer and instructor throughout Colorado and Wyoming.  

Dr. Lauer is currently a member of the Fort Collins Symphony, San Juan Symphony, Wyoming Symphony, Steamboat Springs Orchestra, Boulder Chamber Orchestra, Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, and William and the Romantics Big Band.  He also performs with other ensembles in the region, including the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Colorado Ballet Orchestra, Cheyenne Symphony, and Longmont Symphony.  Previously, he has served as Bass Trombonist of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Sinfonia de Camera, and Prairie Ensemble in Illinois.  He has also performed with the Detroit Civic Orchestra in Michigan.  As a soloist, he gave the Michigan premiere of Matthew Schoendorff’s Sonata for Bass Trombone and Piano.  He has been a finalist for the Eastern Trombone Workshop solo competition.  Mr. Lauer has performed with noted musicians, such as Jan Mulder, Walter White, Denis DiBlasio, and Tom Garling.

Lauer currently serves as Instructor of Trombone at Loveland High School in Loveland and Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins.  He is also Instructor of Low Brass at Cherry Creek Academy in Englewood.  Before, he taught trombone private lessons for Grand Ledge Public Schools in Michigan.  He has also served as an instructor for the Illinois Summer Youth Music Trombone Camp, as well as various band camps across the state of Ohio.

His primary teachers include William Stanley, Curtis Olson, Ava Ordman, Elliot Chasanov, Jim Pugh, and Andrew Glendening.  He is received the DMA of Trombone Performance and Pedagogy in from the University of Colorado Boulder.  His previous Trombone Performance Degrees come from Michigan State University (MM) and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (BM).  Mr. Lauer is a member of the International Trombone Association and the American Federation of Musicians.
